A psychiatrist with extensive experience in Youth and Adolescent Psychiatry reviews and examines evidence and the available diagnostic and treatment options available to General Practitioners. The activity also reviews the Psychiatric Advice and Consultation Service available to GPs within EMPHN and GPHN.\n\nA national Health survey estimated in 2017-18, that one in five (20%) or 4.8 million Australians had a mental or behavioural condition & furthermore, it was reported that 15–24 year olds had the highest proportion of mental or behavioural conditions (26%). 1 With approximately 75% of common mental health problems emerging before the age of 25 years 2, GPs are often the first contact for these patients. In 2015-16, 12.4% of all GP encounters were reported to be related to mental health & this relates to an estimated 18.0 million mental health-related GP encounters with 13% of these encounters being with patients under the age of 24 years. 3 Given the prognostic implications of early detection & intervention, GPs have a pivotal role in the diagnosis, treatment & management of young patients suffering from mental illness. This activity seeks to develop GPs’ skills in the identification, assessment & management of mental illness commonly encountered within the youth & adolescents.\n\n**Learning Outcomes**\n1. Conduct a comprehensive initial evaluation of a young patient presenting with symptoms of mental illness including history, examination and investigations.\n2. Discuss the indications for intervention.\n3. Describe the available treatment pathways for common presentations amongst young patients.\n\n**Provider Details**\nThe Provider of this activity is [Healthscope](app.praxhub.com/orgs/healthscope-24). Healthscope is an RACGP-accredited CPD Provider under the RACGP CPD Program.\n\n**Please give your feedback** on the video, or questions that you have for the presenters, in the ‘Comments’ field below.","type":"video","summaryViewCount":1230,"startDateTime":null,"durationSecs":4919,"organisation":{"id":24,"name":"Healthscope","logoImage":"c6912e5ae0279dedd2e803978b4e8f0f4e60430aa5fe4334f576b24f","logoImageThumbnail":"dca3cefc4d860aecf490d7be65bf146335b1070c086f48e29c4de57c","industry":"Private Hospital"},"provider":{"id":24,"name":"Healthscope","logoImage":"c6912e5ae0279dedd2e803978b4e8f0f4e60430aa5fe4334f576b24f","logoImageThumbnail":"dca3cefc4d860aecf490d7be65bf146335b1070c086f48e29c4de57c","industry":"Private Hospital"},"commentCount":1,"likeCount":14,"presenters":[{"id":19016,"specialty":{"id":95,"name":"Psychiatry"},"name":"Josephine McKeown","title":"Consultant Psychiatrist","profileImage":"079bcabc0b4c549d409183d95807c35c1f172da1a9f51aedcc283850","profileImageThumbnail":"f2059764344ee173b72dfa79d902b723c43a59328b1dd784c475152b"},{"id":18803,"specialty":{"id":163,"name":"Registered Nurse"},"name":"Marissa Grove","title":"Deputy Director of Clinical Services","profileImage":"5ffe0b51c75f6722a0531c544614fb314d7a2c03155e6f7175cc030d","profileImageThumbnail":"81c937254b4ce574bbfa30db08665bc31aa5572226edde95b211bd72"}],"relatedEducation":[{"id":1335,"name":"Evaluating Rectal Bleeding in Primary Care: Getting it Right Early","image":"3f2bffaf1ee38f6cc725789e77bcfafd1d0ae00a5bce0cc71de09408","imageThumbnail":"5fe1ed837fe4fffb3b91a0a9ac1ca273307765ee2340af3a2de89fac","type":"link","startDateTime":null,"durationSecs":null,"associationEducationTypes":["EA","MO","RP"],"organisation":{"id":24,"name":"Healthscope"}},{"id":1339,"name":"Gastrointestinal Cancer Update: Pancreatic and Colorectal Cancer Referral, Management & Prehabilitation","image":"e70dab867c46000629c9018bebee533efe9308b347624a485e8af18d","imageThumbnail":"05b747428ac73991ca42d160ba3421f7f224ce3a78fa50bcfbf2cccc","type":"link","startDateTime":null,"durationSecs":null,"associationEducationTypes":["EA","MO","RP"],"organisation":{"id":24,"name":"Healthscope"}},{"id":1356,"name":"Hormones, Headspace & Healthy Bones: Updates on PMDD, PCOS and Osteoporosis.","image":"8c7a2143b15c2dec96ae45a64229901a202ba24a275051b42985af2c","imageThumbnail":"f5ba1e1103b6d5ba2066f1e639d077c69a9a73fabd64f6c0f4324b49","type":"link","startDateTime":null,"durationSecs":null,"associationEducationTypes":["EA","MO","RP"],"organisation":{"id":24,"name":"Healthscope"}},{"id":1357,"name":"Contemporary Management of Lumbar Spinal Conditions in General Practice","image":"f67d536f4f89817cc6fd28e9fd4393c4947c6a618cee12aa98e1b3c6","imageThumbnail":"8e80eef015cb2a9a3edfd49e3d4fc01652b244b14a5db81f19af3169","type":"link","startDateTime":null,"durationSecs":null,"associationEducationTypes":["EA"],"organisation":{"id":24,"name":"Healthscope"}},{"id":1328,"name":"Never Miss a Beat: Modern Management of Cardiometabolic Syndrome & Atrial Fibrillation","image":"57e7ddd489ea14142a0f93c31ff2805e700b53d422f629e2efe58056","imageThumbnail":"bf40dc6e99194e7b7135db2cc53040d3f87923a7d5586394e953b9c0","type":"link","startDateTime":null,"durationSecs":null,"associationEducationTypes":["EA","MO","RP"],"organisation":{"id":24,"name":"Healthscope"}},{"id":1349,"name":"Mind the Gap: Bridging Surgery and Physiotherapy in Pelvic Floor Dysfunction","image":"4697946e884f18442ee7f5ff19c49e63a1f91c749aa8ae858f3b5c6c","imageThumbnail":"0519782735c7b577e399069030ca427ac962bf8e256766899207db25","type":"link","startDateTime":null,"durationSecs":null,"associationEducationTypes":["EA","MO","RP"],"organisation":{"id":24,"name":"Healthscope"}}]}
