Non-Pharmacological Therapies In Back Pain

Non-pharmacological therapies in back pain

ABOUT:

The appropriate management for non-specific back pain may include education, non-pharmacological therapies, and the management of confounding psychosocial stressors. Lack of time and clinician confidence can mean that these strategies are under-utilised. This online activity provides an update for GPs on risk factors for low back pain, screening tools, and evidence for non-pharmacological therapies including exercise, manual therapy, and acupuncture in the management of low back pain.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  1. List some of the risk factors for low back pain
  2. Describe the evidence for exercise, manual therapies, and acupuncture in the management of low back pain
  3. Outline the role of using the STarT Back, PICK UP, or Orebro Screening tools to evaluate the risk of a patient developing chronic pain
