About

HbA1c can be used to diagnose diabetes, but a single result in someone without symptoms isn't enough to confirm it. The presenters walk through the risk factors to ask about, including family history, exercise, comorbidities, medications that can raise blood glucose, and the frequency of testing based on their HbA1c target levels.

This activity comprises a short educational video, followed by a reflective activity. Participants must complete both components to qualify for 30 minutes of Reviewing Performance (RP) Hours.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Outline the best practice approach to individualised HbA1c target-setting and monitoring in primary care.
  2. Critically reflect on recent patient interactions to identify strengths and gaps in your HbA1c assessment and monitoring.
  3. Reflect on how you could apply individualised target-setting and recognition of persistent above-target glycaemia to overcome therapeutic inertia in your practice.
