1:14:27The Respiratory Syncytial Virus Maternal and Infant Protection Program (RSV-MIPP) has been rolled out across Australia from February 2025 to reduce the incidence of serious illness and hospitalisation due to RSV in infancy. GPs will be at the forefront of educating women and delivering maternal immunisation against RSV with Abrysvo® to ‘cocoon’ the developing baby.
GPs will also be largely responsible for arranging ‘catch up’ nirsevimab (a monoclonal antibody Beyfortus™) for infants under 2 years at high risk or whose mothers either missed out on immunisation or were immunised within two weeks of delivery. While maternal immunisation is covered under the NIP, nirsevimab is state funded so all states differ in their approach to the rollout.
Participants will determine safe and effective maternal immunisation against RSV as well as be able to describe eligibility, dosage and indications for nirsevimab administration applicable to where they work in Australia.
