Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a leading cause of common respiratory presentations in children. It can cause cold symptoms, and in young children, bronchitis, bronchiolitis, and pneumonia. While severe disease requires tertiary care, the vast majority of children with RSV will seek care from their primary care practitioners.
An updated understanding of the emerging trends in epidemiology, severity and evidence-based management will enable caregivers to ensure timely identification of this illness and to direct care to the safest and most appropriate approaches, based on the symptoms of the child, and their at-risk characteristics.
