Musculoskeletal conditions account for a significant proportion of total disease burden in Australia and affect people of all ages, arising from a variety of hereditary, congenital, or pathologic sources. This education activity will provide crucial guidance to GPs on managing patients living with arthritic pain across the lifespan. GPs will be equipped to implement age-appropriate management plans with the intent of managing symptoms, preserving functional quality of life and minimising risk. Furthermore, this activity will outline crucial conservative approaches to the management of arthritic pain for patients where surgery is not an option.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this CPD activity, GP participants will be able to:

1. Develop customised management plans for patients of varying age groups suffering from arthritic pain focussed on symptom control, functional preservation and quality of life.
2. Initiate age-appropriate conservative management strategies to reduce pain and delay disease progression for patients with arthritic pain who are not candidates for surgery
3. Utilise contemporary multidisciplinary referral pathways to orthopaedic specialists and allied health professionals enacting timely and coordinated escalation of care for patients with progressive or complex arthritis.
