Introduction to Wound Care

Proper wound care is essential to preventing infections and other complications that may result from an underlying injury. It is also important to speed up the healing process with less scarring.

This course has been designed to support nurses and other healthcare workers who are involved in wound care to better understand the physiology of wound healing, how to properly assess wounds, and how to manage the healing of lower leg and trauma wounds.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

1. Explain the physiology of wound healing
2. Know what to look for when assessing an acute versus a slow-to-heal wound
3. Know how to complete a wound assessment and what to write following the assessment
4. Understand what resources (such as dressings) you may have to assist you with wound healing and management of wounds
5. Understand leg ulceration, assessment and management
6. Know the principles of managing trauma wounds
7. Prevent infection and wound breakdown in surgical wounds
