About

This course has been developed by Interplast to support health care staff in their clinical practice. The 4 learning modules aim to outline the infection prevention practices that can be implemented throughout the peri-operative period.

The course will take participants approximately 1.5 hours to complete. You may start and return to the course at any time. On completion of these modules healthcare staff should have the knowledge and skills to deliver high quality, evidence based care to surgical patients.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course you will be able to:

  1. Explain the importance of effective hand hygiene and identify the 5 moments
  2. Identify how to perform hand hygiene correctly in your daily tasks
  3. Identify the difference between SSI's and prevention strategies to reduce risk of SSI's
  4. Understand the elements of intra-operative care including aseptic technique, perioperative attire and PPE
  5. Demonstrate how to manage the surgical environment to promote best practice in the clinical field
  6. Recognise and manage co-morbidities in the surgical patient post operatively to promote optimal wound healing
