Digestive-tract cancers account for a significant proportion of cancer diagnoses and associated deaths in Australia every year. Colorectal and pancreatic cancer are the second and third leading cause of cancer-related death respectively. Thus, GPs play a critical role across preventive health activities, diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal disease including but not limited to cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. This education activity will communicate key red flag signs and symptoms relating to pancreatic cancer improving the timeliness of detection and subsequent treatment. In addition, this activity will communicate the importance of robust prehabilitation prior to cancer surgery to optimise patient outcomes. Lastly, this education will reinforce the importance of preventive health screening for colorectal cancer within high-risk patient populations, and outline referral and management pathways for patients with suspected malignancy to ensure timely intervention.
